Kentucky [State] - Kentucky
A state in the south-central United States. It is mostly made up of hills on the western foot of the Appalachian Mountains, and the Ohio River forms the northern border. It is mainly an agricultural state, with tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, and fruit cultivation thriving. It also raises cattle and pigs, and is known for raising thoroughbred racehorses. The Kentucky Derby, which has been held in Louisville since 1875, is world famous. It also produces a lot of bituminous coal, oil, and natural gas. Food processing and machinery manufacturing are also carried out. Bourbon whiskey and tobacco are traditional industries. The southern part is part of the TVA, and has the man-made Kentucky Lake. Mammoth Cave National Park is a tourist destination. It was first settled in 1765. It became a territory of the United States under the Treaty of Paris in 1783. It was part of Virginia, but joined the Union in 1792. The state capital is Frankfort. The largest city is Louisville. The state song is My Old Kentucky Home by SC Foster. 102,269km2 . 4,413,457 people (2014).
