During the First Sino-Japanese War, the Order of the Golden Kite Pension Act of October 27, 1894 provided for lifelong pensions for each rank from general to warrant officer, bringing not only honor but also economic benefits. After April 29, 1940, this system was changed to a lump sum payment.
