Mt. Hijiri - Hijiridake

A mountain on the border between Shizuoka and Nagano prefectures. It is 3,013 meters above sea level. It is in the southern part of the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps), and is known as the southernmost mountain in Japan that is over 3,000 meters above sea level. It is in the Southern Alps National Park, and the area west of the summit is a special protected area. In Nagano prefecture, it is called Nishizawayama because it is the source of Nishizawa, a tributary of the Toyama River. It has two peaks, east and west, and the eastern peak is also called Okuhijiri-dake (2,978 meters) and the western peak is also called Maehijiri-dake (3,013 meters). There are several ways to climb the mountain, including the route along Hijiri-sawa (Shizuoka side) and the route along the ridge from Nishizawado (Nagano side). The standard itinerary requires three nights and four days.

静岡・長野県境にある山。標高3013メートル。赤石山脈(あかいしさんみゃく)（南アルプス）南部にあり、日本最南部の3000メートルを超える山として知られる。南アルプス国立公園内にあり、頂上一帯から西側は特別保護地区。長野県では遠山(とおやま)川支流の西沢の源流にあたるところから西沢山とよばれる。東西二峰からなり、東峰を奥聖岳（2978メートル）、西峰を前聖岳（3013メートル）とも称する。登山は聖沢に沿うルート（静岡県側）や、西沢渡からの尾根伝いのルート（長野県側）などがある。標準的な日程は3泊4日を要する。
