...One of the schools of tea ceremony founded by Kobori Enshu. Enshu succeeded Furuta Oribe as the tea ceremony master to Shogun Iemitsu, and established the "Kirei Sabi" tea ceremony centered on the daisu during the heyday of feudal lord tea. This is expressed in the architecture that integrates the tea room, the chain room, and the study, which bring out classical beauty, and the tea ceremony is based on the imperial taste that arose from admiration for Fujiwara Teika.

…He learned the tea ceremony from Furuta Oribe at an early age, and in 1636 (Kan'ei 13) while serving as the magistrate of the Shinagawa Palace construction, he presented tea to the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, at the palace, and thus came to be known as the Shogun's tea ceremony master. In keeping with the heyday of feudal lord tea, he sought to integrate the tea room, the Kusari no Ma (a room located between the small room and the shoin), and the shoin, and advocated a "Kirei Sabi" style of tea centered on the daisu tea ceremony method. He also established the ranking of famous tea utensils (Chukō Meibutsu), promoted the national wares known as the Seven Enshu Kilns, and instructed the lacquer artist Kondo Michishi (Ijiji lacquer). He was an innovator in the tea ceremony in general. …
