[Okinawa under wartime conditions]
Okinawan society was seriously exhausted by the depression and recession that followed the end of World War I. The Okinawa Prefectural Development Plan (1932), which emerged as a relief measure, had the basic pillar of improving and expanding the industrial base, and aimed to increase productivity in each industrial field. However, just as the development plan was finally getting on track, the prefecture was immersed in a wartime system.
