During this time, he restored the ancient Aeolian harp, invented the famous magic lantern and megaphone, and taught perspective to the painter Poussin. After his death, the Kircher Museum was established in Rome to house the vast amount of material and documents he left behind. This is one of the earliest public resource facilities in the world, along with the Ashmolean Museum in England. One of Kircher's most ambitious endeavors was the deciphering of Egyptian hieroglyphics.
