<br /> The remains of a Yayoi period settlement in Sanjo-cho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Located in the center of the Maeyama ridge at an altitude of 201m in the southern part of the Rokko mountain range, it is the remains of a settlement from the middle to late Yayoi period. The existence of the ruins became known in 1954 (Showa 29 ) with the discovery of Yayoi pottery, and as a result of an excavation survey, a total of eight pit dwelling remains were found, including one pit dwelling with ritual-related artifacts and one large pit dwelling. In addition, burnt earth pits, pit graves, and fence rows were also confirmed, and it is thought that the settlement consisted of several buildings at one time. Among the pottery such as jars and jars from the middle to middle late Yayoi period, pottery brought from Omi, east Settsu, Kawachi, Harima, Sanuki, etc. was also found. In addition to stone tools, iron arrowheads , cast iron axes and other iron products, as well as a Han-style three -winged arrowhead, rare in the Japanese archipelago, were also excavated. The Aigayama site was a highland settlement from the Yayoi period, and recent surveys suggest that it was not limited to the mountaintop but extended onto the hillsides as well. The pottery indicates interaction with a wide range of local groups, and suggests that it may have played a role in the distribution of metal tools. It is an important site for understanding Yayoi society, and was designated a national historic site in 2011. It is about a 20-minute walk from Ashiyagawa Station on the Hankyu Railway Kobe Main Line. Source: Kodansha National Historic Site Guide Information |
