Four endemic species are distributed in Africa: the Wattled Crane Bugeranus carunculatus , the White-crowned Crane A. paradisea , the Crowned Crane Balearica pavonina (illustration), and the Grey Crowned Crane Balearica regulorum , where the Common Crane and the Demoiselle Crane spend the winter.
