Monophysitism - Christian Monophysitism

...a theological theory that emerged in the first half of the 5th century in the debate over Christology and was used politically to encourage the estrangement of the Eastern (Egypt, Syria) Empire from the Byzantine Empire. It is also called "Monophysite Christianity." In its extreme form, according to its proponent, Eutyches of Constantinople, the position that Christ had both divine and human natures before the incarnation, but that after the incarnation he had only one nature, that is, the human nature was absorbed into the divinity.
