Year of death: September 5, 1864 (October 5, 1864) Year of birth: Tenpo 4.10.20 (1833.12.1) A local samurai of Aki County, Tosa Province (Kochi Prefecture) during the late Edo period, and a loyalist to the emperor. His given name was Seisho, and he was commonly known as Michinosuke. He studied hard, moving to Edo to study under Asaka Gonsai, Sato Issai, and Wakayama Mokudō, before returning home in 1854 (Ansei 1). In 1861 (Bunkyu 1), he was stationed in the Osaka Sumiyoshi camp established by the Tosa clan, and although he did not directly join Takechi Zuizan's Tosa Kinno Party, he did promise to cooperate with them. In August of the same year, the Kinno Party was jailed, and Takechi and other leaders were imprisoned. Michinosuke gathered his comrades in Aki County and campaigned for the rescue of Takechi and the others. In August 1864, he gathered with 23 comrades at Iwasa Station in Noneyama and submitted a petition for their rescue to the clan office, but the clan office's stance was firm, and Chief Inspector Ogasawara Tadahachi led 800 clan soldiers to suppress the revolt. Kiyooka and the others tried to flee to Awa Province (Tokushima Prefecture), but were captured and executed by beheading at Naharigawara. <References> Zuizankai, "Restoration Tosa Kinno History" (Atsushi Fukuchi) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
