Covalent bond radius - Covalent bond radius

This refers to the atomic radius when the interatomic distance that forms a covalent bond is expressed as the sum of the specific atomic radii assigned to each atom. Strictly speaking, since covalent bonds are formed between atoms of the same type, it is defined as half the covalent bond distance. The tetrahedral covalent bond radius and octahedral covalent bond radius given by LC Pauling are currently widely used, but they have been refined by adjusting the actual measured values ​​and adding some estimated values. For interatomic distances where the bond is considered to be almost covalent, the value obtained from the sum of the covalent bond radii matches the actual measured value very well. Conversely, when they do not match, the nature of the bond can be discussed. Similarly, the respective bond radii are given for double and triple bonds.

共有結合を形成する原子間距離が，各原子に付与される固有な原子半径の和で表されるとしたときの原子半径をいう．厳密には，共有結合は同種原子間に形成されるから，共有結合距離の半分として定義される．L.C. Pauling(ポーリング)により与えられた四面体共有結合半径や八面体共有結合半径は，現在，広く利用されているが，実測値を調整し，一部推定値も加えて整理されたものである．結合がほぼ共有結合とみなされる原子間距離については，共有結合半径の和から得られる値と実測値とは，きわめてよく一致する．このことから，逆に，一致しないときはその結合の性質を議論することができる．二重結合や三重結合についても同じように，それぞれの結合半径が与えられる．
