Obsessive thinking - Kyohakushikou

...In psychology, it refers to the dominance of thoughts (e.g., the fear that the fire is still burning even though the source has been put out), drives, or actions (e.g., repeatedly returning home from outside to check the source of the fire) that are judged to be meaningless, irrelevant, or irrational to the individual in question. In the UK and the US, the term obsession primarily refers to obsessive thoughts, while compulsion refers to obsessive drives and compulsive actions. The ability to criticize the content of compulsive consciousness is considered an important indicator of obsessions, but in severe cases, insight into the irrationality of the content of the obsession is not perfect, and it is not rare for the individual to only half believe it or half doubt it.
