…German Reformer. Born in Eisleben in central Germany as the son of Hans Luther, a farmer and miner. Later he moved to Mansfeld, and following the expectations of his father, who had been successful in business, he attended schools there, Magdeburg, and Eisenach, and in 1501 entered the University of Erfurt, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 1502 and a master's degree in 1505, and began studying law. On July 2nd of that year, he was struck by lightning in Stotternheim, and, following the vow he had taken at that time, he entered the Augustinian monastic order. …
