Kyogoku Tamenori
Year of death: 24th May 1279 (4th July 1279)
Year of birth: Yasuda 1. Leap 3.20 (1227.5.7)
A poet of the Kamakura period. The third son of Fujiwara Tameie. His mother was the daughter of Utsunomiya Yoritsuna. Nijo Tameuji was his full brother, and Reizei Tamesuke was his half brother. Father of Tamekane. He served as Konoe no Shosho, Kurodo no Tomo, and Uhyoe no Kami before reaching the rank of non-councillor, Junior Second Rank. His posthumous Buddhist name was Myose or Myoshin. He was under the patronage of Saionji Saneuji from a young age, and was also a trusted vassal of Emperor Gosaga. Since the Kawai-sha poetry contest in 1243, he has participated in many poetry gatherings and poetry contests. He is the author of "One Hundred Poems of the Koan Period" and "One Hundred Poems of the Kagen Period." He is said to have been on bad terms with his brother Tameuji ("Igaeru Sho"), which was one of the causes of the conflict between the Nijo and Kyogoku families in the following generations. When Tameuji was selecting "Zoku Shuishū," he pleaded for his sons Tameko and Tamekane to add more to the collection, but his plea was not granted ("Iwasaki Family Collection Handbook").
