Title of a Japanese piece. A combination of Kato-bushi and Itchu-bushi. The correct title is "Genji Jyururi Kuyo" (A memorial to the twelve Genji tales). It is also called "Genji Jyururi". It was first performed at the Yanagibashi Kawachiya Hanjiro house in August 1807 (Bunka 4) as a memorial service for the 23rd anniversary of the deaths of the 5th head priest Masumi Kato and the 13th anniversary of the deaths of the 6th head priest Kato. The lyrics were written by Eishi (Misasaya Nisamiji), and it was first performed by the 7th head priest Kato and the 5th head priest Miyako Itchu. It is an adaptation of the flute section and the ninja section from "Joruri Monogatari" (also called "Juunidan Zoushi"), which is also the origin of the word joruri. Jorurihime, the daughter of a wealthy man from the village of Yahagi, is enjoying the music surrounded by many maids. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
