〘 noun 〙 A life preserver used to prevent drowning when someone falls into the water after a shipwreck or other incident. It is made by wrapping cork, kapok, balsa wood, etc. in waterproof cloth and forming it into a ring shape. A lifebuoy. A life bag. [Ministry of Communications Ordinance No. 88 - December 28, 1900 (Meiji 33)]
