...Noh dances are divided into "daishomono" (large-scale small-scale pieces) played on the flute (noh flute), small drum, and large drum, and "taikomono" (large-scale pieces) that also feature the taiko drum. Both types are often classified according to the type of "ji," which is the basic musical phrase played on the flute. That is, there are two types of dance, such as Jo no mai, Shin no Jo no mai, Chu no mai, Hayamai, Otoko mai, Kami mai, Kyu no mai, and Hano mai, which use a shared area known as the area of Riyochukan, and two types, such as Gaku, Kagura, Katsuko, Sagimidare (Sagi), Shojoran (Shojo), Shishi (Stone Bridge), and Ranbyoshi (Dojoji), which use their own specific area. The "Jo-no-mai" dance is performed quietly by female and elderly characters, and includes small-scale dances such as "Izutsu," "Eguchi," and "Teika," as well as drum pieces such as "Oshio" and "Hagoromo."
