A newspaper edited and published by students. The first student newspaper in Japan was the Mita Shimbun at Keio University, which was launched in May 1917. It is different from general newspapers and student newspapers in other countries in that it is organized within the university and its readership is students. Since the 1970s, sects that control the student council leadership of each faculty have begun to give it the role of an organ for their own sect, and it has become almost unread by general students. Since the mid-1980s, student sports newspapers that report on the activities of their own school's sports clubs have become more active.
