[The era of imperial court diplomacy]
Diplomacy as a form of negotiation has a long history that is in keeping with human society, but it is said that the professional diplomats, diplomatic practices and etiquette we see today, and the international law that governs their behavior first emerged in the Italian city-states at the end of the Middle Ages. However, diplomacy truly blossomed in Western Europe during the period of absolutist monarchies from the 16th to the 18th centuries, when a form of "court diplomacy" full of romance and rife with intrigue unfolded.
