Acute nephritis

Also called acute glomerulonephritis (AGN). A type of nephritis that progresses acutely. It is a disease in which the glomeruli, which filter blood in the kidneys, become inflamed. It is common in children. It often occurs secondary to upper respiratory tract infections caused by hemolytic streptococcus (a type of pyogenic bacteria) such as colds and tonsillitis. One of the main symptoms is swelling of the face, especially the eyelids, along with fever. The amount of urine decreases, and blood is often mixed in the urine. If the swelling continues for about a week, it is necessary to see a doctor as it is a serious disease. At home, it is important to rest and keep warm, and pay special attention to your diet, limiting protein and salt, and avoiding spicy foods such as spices and alcoholic beverages. It is easy to relapse, and once it progresses to chronic nephritis, it is difficult to treat, so it is important to receive a diagnosis and treatment from a doctor as soon as possible.

急性糸球体腎炎 (AGN) ともいう。急性に経過する腎炎。腎臓で血液のろ過を行う糸球体が炎症を起す病気。小児に多い。風邪，扁桃炎など溶血性連鎖球菌 (化膿菌の一つ) の上気道感染に続発することが多い。発熱とともに顔面，ことにまぶたのむくみが主症状の一つで，尿量が減り，尿に血液の混ることが多い。むくみが1週間程度続く場合は，本症と考えて受診を必要とする。家庭では安静と保温が大切で，食事にはことに注意し，蛋白質，塩類を制限，香辛料など刺激性食品，アルコール飲料などを避ける。再発しやすく，また慢性腎炎に移行すると治療がむずかしいので，できるだけ早く医師の診断，治療を受けることが大切である。
