Mikumo ruins - Mikumo ruins

A cemetery from the mid-Yayoi period located in Mikumo, Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture. In 1822 (Bunsei 5), a jointed jar coffin was excavated one meter underground at Minamishoji Mikumo. Thirty-five bronze mirrors, two bronze spears, magatama (curved jewels), kudatama (tubular jewels), and glass bi (diamonds) from the Western Han period were discovered inside, and a bronze sword with a handle and a bronze halberd were discovered on top of it. The bronze mirrors were imported from China, and the bronze weapons were imported from Korea. There are major Yayoi period ruins in the vicinity, such as the Ishigasaki Dolmen Group, the Shito Dolmen Group, and the Ibara-Yarimizo Ruins, and some believe that this is the tomb of the king of Ito Province, which is mentioned in the Gishi Wajinden (Records of the Wei Dynasty). The details of the past discoveries are given in the Edo period book "Illustrated Guide to Ancient Artifacts of Mikumo Village, Ito County, Chikuzen Province" written by Aoyagi Tanenobu. Since 1974, the Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education has been excavating the surrounding area, confirming previous excavation sites and collecting numerous mirror fragments, beads, and gilt bronze ornamental metal fittings.
