Yunohira [Hot spring] - Yunohira

Japanese: 湯平[温泉] - ゆのひら

This hot spring is located in the southwest of Yufuin Town in central Oita Prefecture. It is located in the valley of the Kagono River, a tributary of the Oita River, at an altitude of about 600m, and is accessible by bus from Yunohira Station on the Kyudai Main Line. Ryokan inns are lined up on either side of the stone-paved road, and the hot spring town retains the atmosphere of a traditional hot spring resort. The spring quality is pure saline, with a temperature of 60-80°C. There are 13 springs in use (8 of which are artesian). Legend has it that it was discovered by Aso Settsu-no-kami Fujiwara Hidekatsu 700 years ago. There are hiking trails from the hot spring to Yamashita-ike Pond and Odano-ike Pond (both crater lakes) along the Kyushu Cross-Island Highway (Yamanami Highway).

大分県中部，湯布院（ゆふいん）町の南西部にある温泉。大分川の支流花合野（かごの）川の谷間，標高約600mに位置し，久大本線湯平駅からバスの便がある。石畳の道をはさんでぎっしりと旅館が並び，昔ながらの湯治場の風情を残す温泉街である。泉質は純食塩泉で，泉温は60～80℃。利用されている泉源数は13(うち自噴8)。700年前，麻生摂津守藤原秀勝が発見したという伝説が残る。温泉から九州横断道路(やまなみハイウェー)沿いの山下池，小田の池(いずれも火口湖)までのハイキングコースがある。
