Born on July 3, 1876. Studied under Kawabata Gyokusho. After graduating from Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts), he participated in Okakura Tenshin's New Art Movement, and contributed to the founding of the Japan Art Institute in 1898 and its revival in 1914. In 1907, his work "Abougoka" won third prize at the first Bunten exhibition. In his later years, he painted many Buddhist paintings. He passed away on November 29, 1942. He was 67 years old.
