The UN forces dispatched to Cyprus during the civil war. In 1963, a civil war broke out between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots, and there was a fear that both Greece and Turkey would intervene. On March 4, 1964, the UN Security Council, with the consent of Cyprus, passed a resolution to send a UN peacekeeping force to Cyprus. This UN force was made up of about 6,000 troops provided by seven countries, and was tasked with preventing civil war and maintaining order. The UN peacekeeping force was limited to self-defense, and rules were established to prevent its abuse. The UN forces contributed to calming the conflict, and their stay, which was initially scheduled for three months, has been extended several times.

キプロスの内戦にあたって派遣された国連軍。 1963年，キプロスのギリシア系住民とトルコ系住民の間に内戦が起り，それにギリシア，トルコ両国が介入するおそれが生じたので，64年3月4日国連安全保障理事会は，キプロスの同意を得たうえ，同国へ国連平和維持軍を派遣する決議を採択した。この国連軍は，7ヵ国が提供した約 6000人の兵力で編成され，内戦の防止と治安維持にあたった。 UNFICYPの武力行使は自衛のためだけに限られ，その濫用防止の規則が設けられた。国連軍は紛争の鎮静化に貢献し，初め3ヵ月の予定であった駐留期間は幾度も延長されている。
