[1] (Jīvaka の音訳。活、命、能活、寿命などと訳す) 仏弟子で古代インドの名医。頻婆娑羅王の王子で、阿闍世王の兄。父を殺した阿闍世王を導いて、仏に帰依(きえ)させたといわれる。中国の扁鵲(へんじゃく)と並称される。※百座法談（1110）六月五日「舎利仏『ここに只今きは大臣の来て申しつるは、蓮根三両もて療治せよとなむ申しつる』といひければ」〔北本涅槃経‐一九〕[2] 〘名〙「ぎばちょう（耆婆鳥）」の略。※説経節・説経さんせう太夫（佐渡七太夫正本）（1656）上「あれはときわの国よりもきたる鳥なれば、つばめ共申也、又はぎば共申也」
