A practitioner of new education in the Taisho period. Graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School. In 1919, he became head teacher of the elementary school attached to Nara Women's Higher Normal School. He advocated and put into practice "interdisciplinary learning," the fruit of many years of research into teaching methods. He founded the magazine Gakushu Kenkyu (Learning Research), launched a nationwide interdisciplinary learning movement, and had an impact on elementary school education. His books include Gakushu Genron (Theory of Learning) (1923) and Gakushu Kakron (Specifics of Learning) (3 volumes, 31).
