Takanori Kinoshita

Western-style painter. Born in Tokyo. Painter Yoshiken (Yoshinori) is his younger brother. He studied law at Kyoto University and then literature at Tokyo Imperial University, but dropped out to become a painter. In 1921 (Taisho 10), he was selected for the Nikaten Exhibition for the first time, travelled to France the same year, and returned to Japan in 1923. The following year, he won the Chogyu Prize at the Nikaten Exhibition, and in 1925, he received the Nika Prize. In 1926, he founded the 1930 Association with Maeda Kanji, Saeki Yuzo, and others. In 1928 (Showa 3), he travelled to France again, and returned to Japan in 1935. The following year, he exhibited works he had created in Europe at the Nikaten Exhibition and became a Nikaten member, but in the same year he left the association and participated in the founding of the Issui-kai with Yasui Sotaro and others. After World War II, he also exhibited at the Nitten Exhibition, and became known for his sophisticated images of modern women.

洋画家。東京生まれ。画家義謙(よしのり)は実弟。京都大学法科、ついで東京帝国大学文科に学ぶが、中退して画家となる。1921年（大正10）二科展に初入選し、同年渡仏して23年帰国する。翌年の二科展で樗牛(ちょぎゅう)賞、25年には二科賞を受ける。26年前田寛治、佐伯祐三(さえきゆうぞう)らと「一九三〇年協会」を創立する。28年（昭和3）ふたたび渡仏し、35年帰国。翌年の二科展に滞欧作を出品して二科会員となるが、同年退会して安井曽太郎(そうたろう)らの一水会創立に参加する。第二次世界大戦後は日展にも出品し、洗練された現代女性像で知られる。
