A town in Kanra County in the southwest of Gunma Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous and hilly. The town center, Obata, on the east bank of the Ogawa River, was the site of the Obata Domain's camp during the Edo Period. The Joshin Electric Railway runs through the north of the town.
