Kido Award

...Kido's theory was that the basis of a film is the screenplay, and as Director Yoji Yamada recalls, this theory permeated every corner of the film studio as "Shochiku's unique policy is that those who cannot write a screenplay cannot become a director." In 1975, the Kido Award was established with the aim of "nurturing talented screenwriters who will lead the Japanese films of tomorrow." In addition to films, in 1933, Shochiku renamed and reorganized the Tokyo Opera Department to Shochiku Shojo Kageki, building a golden age in rivalry with Takarazuka Shojo Kageki.
