…In 80 (Tenju 6, Kōryaku 2) he was invited by Shogun Yoshimitsu to go to Kyoto and live at Kennin-ji Temple, but in 86 (Genchū 3, Shitoku 3) he became the chief priest of Nanzen-ji Temple, founded Jishi-in Temple on the temple grounds, and retired. Gido gained the support of the Shogun and the military and courtiers, and contributed to the expansion of the Muso faction's influence. When Yoshimitsu built Shōkoku-ji Temple and sought its rank as one of the Five Mountains and consulted Gido, Gido expressed his opinion that Nanzen-ji Temple should be ranked above the Five Mountains, and thus the Five Mountains system was established. …
