It is located in the Ichinomiya district of Saidaiji, Higashi Ward, Okayama City. The deity enshrined is Anin-no-kami. "Anin" means older brother, and the name of the deity is likely derived from the ancestor of the Kibi Shimomichikuni no Miyatsuko, Anihiko-no-mikoto (Inahayawake-no-mikoto). There is also a theory that the enshrined deity is Itsuse-no-mikoto, the older brother of Emperor Jimmu. It is an ancient shrine dating back to the reign of Emperor Ojin, and is the only famous shrine among the 26 shrines in Bizen Province listed in the Engishiki Shinmeicho. It later became the second shrine in Bizen Province, and in the early modern period it was a place of prayer for the feudal lord Ikeda. It was formerly a national shrine. The annual festival is held on October 11th. [Toshihiko Uda] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
