Circuit meter - Circuit meter

A simple instrument that uses a selector switch to measure voltage, current, and resistance. It is also called a tester (short for circuit tester). It can measure voltage up to about 1000 volts and current up to about 200 milliamps, and both voltage and current are generally divided into 3 to 4 measurement ranges. Pointer-type ones use a moving coil ammeter with a small operating current as an indicator, and combine this with auxiliary circuits such as semiconductor rectifiers, shunts, multipliers, and batteries to measure various electrical quantities such as AC/DC and voltage/current. Digital-type ones use digital technology to show the measured value in numbers. Some are also used to easily measure AC frequency and harmonic components.

電圧、電流および抵抗などを切り替えスイッチを使って単体で簡便に測定する計器。テスター（サーキットテスターcircuit testerの略称）ともいう。電圧は1000ボルト程度まで、電流は200ミリアンペア程度まで測定でき、電圧、電流とも測定範囲を3～4程度に分けたものが一般的である。指針型のものは、指示計として動作電流の小さい可動コイル型電流計を使い、これと半導体整流器、分流器、倍率器、電池などの補助回路とを組み合わせ、交流・直流の別、電圧・電流の別などいろいろな電気量を測定できるようになっている。デジタル型はデジタル技術を利用して、測定値を数字で示すようになっている。また交流の周波数や高調波成分などを簡便に測定できるものも用いられている。
