Year of death: 17th October 1715 (12th November 1715) Year of birth: 1638 (Kan'ei 15) A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His other pen names were Tsubohyoken and Shisai. He was born around Asakayama in Oshu, and came to Edo in the mid-Kanbun period. He moved to Shiba, Nihonbashi 1-chome, and Asakusa Yamatani. He is said to have been a master of haiku from Ogino Ansei, but he had a close relationship with Ishida Mitoku and was also a member of Naito Futora's literary salon. After the publication of "Fujiseki" in 1679 (Enpo 7), he became one of Edo's leading masters during the Enpo period. During the Jokyo and Genroku periods (1684-1704), he was overshadowed by the rise of the Sho school, but he devoted himself to katen haikai and published anthologies with pre-phrases such as "Senshu" and "Ju no yashi." He is a typical haiku poet who suggests the role of a haiku master in Edo during the Genroku period. <References> Ogino Kiyoshi, "The Life of Kishimoto Chowa" (Haiku Literature Collection) (Kusumoto Sixth Son) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
