Spanish painter from around 1440 to after 1507. He lived in Salamanca from 1473 onwards and was active in the city and the surrounding province, producing numerous altarpieces. He was one of the leading figures of the Castilian school in late 15th-century Spain, which was influenced by Flemish painting. His connections with D. Bouts and K. Witts can be seen, and he excelled in dramatic scenes with brutally realistic expressions. [Kamiyoshi Keizo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
