Senryu (Japanese senryu) writer. His real name was Tatsuo. He was born in Mie Prefecture, and later returned to his home town of Osaka. He initially aimed to write short senryu poems. In 1913 (Taisho 2), he founded the magazine Bangasa with Nishida Tohyaku and others. He eventually returned to the traditional school, and advocated "authentic senryu" that incorporated a modern sensibility into traditional senryu. He also advocated the "Fourth Movement" to eliminate the recreational element of senryu. He organized Bangasa Senryu Clubs all over Japan, and popularized senryu as literature to the masses by selecting and reviewing senryu poems on radio broadcasts. His books include Ningen Techo and Senryu Reader.
