Diencephalic tumor

Japanese: 間脳腫瘍 - かんのうしゅよう

A type of brain tumor, a general term for tumors that invade the diencephalon and the third ventricle that it surrounds. Major tumors include craniopharyngiomas, ventricular ependymoma, colloid cysts, and pineal tumors such as dysgerminoma and teratoma. Dysgerminomas often occur in the midline of the hypothalamus, and are called suprasellar dysgerminomas. Diencephalic tumors commonly cause headaches and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure (such as impaired consciousness and vision), while tumors that invade the hypothalamus, such as craniopharyngiomas and suprasellar dysgerminomas, cause symptoms such as obesity, anterior pituitary hypofunction, diabetes insipidus, excessive drinking, and impaired thermoregulation.

脳腫瘍の一種で，間脳と間脳が囲む第三脳室を侵す腫瘍を総称していう。おもな腫瘍には，頭蓋咽頭腫，脳室上衣腫ependymoma，上衣囊胞colloid cyst，松果体部腫瘍である未分化胚細胞腫や奇形腫teratomaなどがある。未分化胚細胞腫は視床下部の正中部にもよく発生し，これはトルコ鞍上部未分化胚細胞腫suprasellar germinomaとよばれる。間脳腫瘍では共通して，頭痛や頭蓋内圧亢進症状(意識障害や視力障害など)がみられ，頭蓋咽頭腫やトルコ鞍上部未分化細胞腫など視床下部を侵す腫瘍の場合は，肥満，脳下垂体前葉機能低下症，尿崩症，多飲，体温調節障害などの症状がみられる。
