A lunar calendar that was in effect from 1754 to 1798. It is also read as "Horyakureki" and is correctly called the Horeki Koju Genreki. At the order of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the eighth Shogun of the Edo Shogunate, Astronomical Staff Nishikawa Masayasu and Shibukawa Noriyasu prepared to revise the Jōkyō calendar, and in 1761, when they were ready to revise the calendar based on Western astronomy, they submitted a petition to Kyoto. However, due to Yoshimune's death, this was not realized. Abe (Tsuchimikado) Yasukuni, head of the Onmyō clan, had Nishimura Toori conduct experiments at the Umekoji Tendai for three years, and completed the "Rekihō Shinsho" (16 volumes), which he submitted to the Emperor on October 16, 1764 (Koju), and came into effect on the 19th of the same year. However, Yasukuni, who wanted to bring real power over the calendar back to Kyoto, only made minor revisions to the Jōkyō calendar, and so shortly after it was enacted, a solar eclipse occurred that was not recorded in the calendar, causing problems, and in 1770, Astronomical Bureau official Sasaki Nagahide and others revised it further. However, because this was a politically motivated calendar reform, it later failed to predict solar eclipses, and was replaced by the Kansei calendar in 10th year of the Kansei era.
