Osaka South Port

…With the construction of Osaka Port, which began in the late Meiji period, the Kizu River became an inland port that played a supporting role to the Port of Osaka. When the Kizu River Canal, which connected the Chikko area with the Kizu River, was completed in 1916, factories of steel, machinery, chemicals, cement, and other industries were built along the canal. After World War I, many shipyards moved to the left bank of the Kizu River, forming a coastal industrial district.
