1697‐1734 Economist. Born in Ireland, he was of Irish descent. In 1716 he went to Paris and was successful in banking, but he fled to London, where he died unexpectedly, after falling under the radar of John Law, the then Chief Financial Officer. His posthumous work, An Inquiry into the Nature of Commerce General, had already influenced economics in both Britain and France by the time of its publication in 1755. He inherited his economic ideas from British economists, especially W. Petty. However, while Petty ultimately dissolved the source of wealth and value from the dualism of land and labor to a single entity of labor, he dissolved it into a single entity of land, which became the ideological source of French Physiocracy.
