〘Noun〙① A box for storing books, designed to be carried on the back. Kyu (backpack) . Fubako (writing box). ※Mori Hidemotoki (1651), 3: "Please order a bookcase for Noh chanting."② A box-shaped piece of furniture with doors for storing books. Today, it is also called a bookshelf. ※Yougaku Tokuhon (Yougaku Reader) (1887)〈Nishimura Tei〉7: "How to make desks, bookcases, chests, chests, and other boxes."
