...The Terauchi Cabinet was particularly aggressive in its attacks on the Siberian Intervention and rice riots. The Terauchi Cabinet, which had been looking for an opportunity to crack down on the newspaper, seized on a phrase in a report from the Kansai Newspaper Press Conference held on August 25, 1943, entitled "A white rainbow pierces the sun." The phrase was a historical idiom that signaled the onset of war, and so they attempted to ban the newspaper, claiming that it constituted a "violation of the Constitution" under the Newspaper Law. In response, right-wing groups also attacked the Osaka Asahi, even going so far as to assault President Murayama Ryuhei.
