Matters concerning the Korean Military Police

…The Military Police Ordinance was formally enacted in March 1881, and was the same as the 1974 draft in terms of the system, such as belonging to the three ministries of the Interior, the Army and Navy, and the Justice Ministry, but all human rights clauses except for the "orders" clause were removed, and in the 1989 revision, the "orders" clause was also removed. On the other hand, military police were also established in colonies acquired in the First Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese Wars, through the Taiwan Military Police Ordinance (1896) and the Matter Concerning Military Police Stationed in Korea (1907), and in these cases, they belonged only to the Superintendent-General and the military commander (the Military Police System). In this way, a military police system without legal restrictions on the exercise of authority was created against the backdrop of the military's growing influence and power both at home and abroad. …
