...It was adopted in the colony, and in Korea, the foundation was laid in 1903 when the Korean Garrison Gendarmerie took on regular police duties. After 1905, as the Gendarmerie was strengthened to suppress the Righteous Army movement, the system was improved through the "Matters Concerning the Korean Garrison Gendarmerie" (1907) and other measures. In June 1910, the Korean government was stripped of police powers, and in September of the same year, the "Korean Garrison Gendarmerie Ordinance" was enacted, completing the system. Under this system, which covered police duties such as family registration, sanitation management, and the enforcement of the use of the Japanese language and the enforcement of agricultural planting, the daily lives of the Korean masses were practically under the control of the Japanese military. ...
