Wei Heng - Eiko

Japanese: 衛恒 - えいこう
Wei Heng - Eiko

[Mikuni to Nanbokucho period]
From the Three Kingdoms period to the end of the Western Jin Dynasty, that is, in the 3rd century, literature, calligraphy, and painting were liberated from political and religious norms and began to be recognized as art with independent value. In the field of calligraphy, following Zhang Zhi at the end of the Han Dynasty, outstanding calligraphers such as Zhong Yao, Huang Xiang, and Suo Jing appeared one after another, and works discussing calligraphy, such as Wei Heng's (?-291) Four Styles of Calligraphy, began to be written. These indicate the respect for individuality in calligraphy and the rise of artistic consciousness.
