…The Japanese Nationality Law recognizes ordinary naturalization and special naturalization, but the conditions for naturalization are different for each. Ordinary naturalization refers to the naturalization of ordinary foreigners (Article 5), while special naturalization, also called simplified naturalization, refers to the naturalization of foreigners who have close ties to Japan in some way, such as blood ties, geographical ties, or other ways, in which the conditions required for ordinary naturalization are relaxed or waived (Articles 6 to 9). The Nationality Law provides that, for ordinary naturalization, if a foreigner cannot lose his/her nationality regardless of his/her will, and if it is recognized that there are special circumstances regarding his/her kinship relationship with a Japanese national or his/her circumstances, naturalization may be permitted even if he/she does not meet the conditions for preventing dual nationality (Article 5, item 5) (Article 5, paragraph 2). …
