Reform

...a movement of self-reform and reform unique to the Catholic Church that existed before the Reformation of Luther and Calvin. After the appearance of Luther, the Catholic Reformation took the form of a Counter-Reformation as a reaction against Luther, but the Catholic Reformation is not the same as the Counter-Reformation. In the past, both Catholic and Protestant historians explained the period of the Reformation or Church Reformation with only two concepts: the Reformation of Luther and Calvin and the Counter-Reformation (for example, the Council of Trent) that arose in opposition to it, and when the concept of the Catholic Reformation was used, it was used as a synonym for the Counter-Reformation.
