...f.64 is a symbolic term for taking sharp photographs with the lens aperture narrowed to the minimum. From 1937 to 1938, he received the Guggenheim Foundation's Encouragement Award, and the results of his photographs of the American West using the prize money were published as California and the Wild West (1940). In 1946, a major retrospective was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, but after that, his chronic Parkinson's disease worsened and he was almost unable to create any more.
