Kenji Kawata

Japanese: 河田賢治 - かわたけんじ

1900－1995 Labor activist and politician from the Taisho to Showa eras.
Born on January 1, 1900. In 1922, he became a secretary for the Sōdōmei Kanto Domei (All Japan Trade Unions Association) and joined the Communist Party. After the Sōdōmei split, he became a central committee member of the Japan Trade Union Council. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the March 15 Incident. After the war, he worked to rebuild the Communist Party, and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1949 and to the House of Councillors in 1968 (elected twice). He passed away on December 17, 1995. He was 95 years old. He was born in Kyoto.

明治33年1月1日生まれ。大正11年総同盟関東同盟主事となり,共産党に入党。総同盟分裂後は日本労働組合評議会中央委員となる。三・一五事件で懲役10年。戦後,共産党の再建につとめ,昭和24年衆議院議員,43年参議院議員(当選2回)。平成7年12月17日死去。95歳。京都出身。
