A textile merchant in Nishijin, Kyoto. His childhood name was Benjiro. In 1879, he took over the family business as Jinbei II. In 1886, he traveled to Europe to study Gobelin weaving. After returning to Japan, he added new Western techniques to traditional techniques, improving Kara Nishiki and Tsuzure Nishiki, and produced large-scale works such as wall hangings and folding screens. 京都西陣の織物業者。幼名弁次郎。1879年家業を継ぎ2世甚兵衛。1886年渡欧してゴブラン織を研究。帰国後伝統技術に洋風の新技術を加え,唐錦(からにしき),綴錦(つづれにしき)を改良,壁掛や衝立(ついたて)などの大作も発表した。
