This powdered medicine was widely taken during the Six Dynasties period in China. It was so named because after taking it, one should not eat or drink any hot food, with the exception of alcohol, and it was also called Gosekisan because it basically uses five types of mineral medicines: purple quartz, white quartz, red amethyst, stalactite, and stone sulfur. It was also used to treat some illnesses during the Han dynasty, but it became explosively popular after He Yan of the Wei dynasty, as people enjoyed the hallucinations that followed and believed they could become immortals.
